Train Ride, Rain Forest, Aboriginal, Birds and Sky Rail

I left Cairnes by train and went up (through the mountains) to Kuranda. Along the way I saw several beautiful waterfalls.

Once in Kuranda I went on a WWII amphibious vehicle, an Army Duck.

Through a small part of a rainforest.

To see video of my "Dundee wannabe" guide - a funny fellow - giving a talk about fern fronds go here: RainforestGuide

Saw several demonstrations of Aboriginies (like the digeredoo, stick throwing, dancing, story telling, etc). This guy was particularly fascinating:

And of course I had to do the occasional thing like posing for pictures with "the natives/locals":

I went through a Bird Sanctuary and saw loads of gorgeous colors:

Other wildlife such as Kangaroos...

And yes I did actually get to pet the kangaroos... though with those claws and muscles it's not something I'd want to do in the wild... these were quite dosile and used to human contact.

A wombat:

And in case there was ever any doubt, koalas are indeed nocturnal :)

On the way back down through the mountains I took the Sky Rail.

With a view of Cairnes like this:
