Executive Description
I am using the wiki to develop an online scrapbook of my Fall 2004 trip to New Zealand. Included in this scrapbook will be my photographs, personal written journal, written class journal, blog, and photoblog from my trip to New Zealand in the fall of 2004.
Narrative
My Resources:
I will use this wiki to put all of this information together in a sequential order. I hope to select the best pictures and compliment them with excerpts of text from all three sources. My hope is to create a story-like depiction of my adventures in New Zealand and Australia. I will also include my personal feelings about what transpired during this time and in the year since. I know I have changed a great deal from these experiences. I struggled with fitting back into the "real world" and it is my hope that, through this scrap-booking, I may both relive the good times and come to make peace (if not sense) of the rougher patches.
This scrapbook will be assembled in chronological order, pulling from the sources listed above, like a hard-copy scrapbook. Each page will have a next and back button, like turning the pages of a book.
In addition, this wiki will consist of five main sections: Before, My Personal Time in New Zealand, My Time in Australia, My Student Teaching, and My Time After. There will be links at the bottom and / or top of each page (and from the main page) so the viewer may select a starting place. In this way I hope to provide some navigation for the visitors, while still allowing them the opportunity to explore freely. I am unsure whether this idea will work, but I am going to give it a try.
Each page of this wiki scrapbook will have at least one picture. The text will be pulled from my written journals, photoblog, blog and my insights now, looking back at the last year and a half. When appropriate I will link from the wiki to my blog and photoblog. I will also endeavor to find sites related to New Zealand and Australia to link to including (hopefully) other New Zealand and Australian bloggers.
For my project report I plan to do a brief walk-through of my scrapbook wiki. I will explain to the class my hopes of making this wiki as close to a real scrapbook as possible, with the added bonus of links. I will also ask their opinions as to whether or not the links at the top and bottom of the wiki and the sections make it easier to navigate.
The Grad Portion of my project will consist of finding similar sites on the web and comparing their attempts with mine. What was successful? What should I do differently? Would a blog work for this? Did the video and links add to the scrapbook? How?
Contract for Grade
I’m contracting for 1000 points (A).
I will do some work on this wiki at least 6 days a week. Each page will consist of approximately 250 words. I have no idea how many nodes I will have other than the first five from the main page. I do expect my travel and student teaching in New Zealand to be the largest parts, as that is where the majority of my time and adventures took place.
This wiki will be a complete scrapbook. It will contain the usual, pictures and text, but will have the added benefit of holding video and links to other sources. It is my hope that these resources bring about a clear depiction of my experiences student teaching, traveling in New Zealand and Australia and how this has changed me and my outlook on life. I hope to gain insight myself by pulling it all together and reflecting on an amazing 4.5 months and the roller coaster since.
