Great Barrier Reef
While in Cairnes I took a boat out to the middle of the Great Barrier Reef and we docked at this... station. From there I took a little boat out to a platform for my very first Helicopter ride went out over the Great Barrier Reef and it was in this puppy:
It was amazing and left me wanting more! Since I was travelling by myself I got to sit up front with the pilot = best view!
To see my helicopter take off go to: AustraliaHelicopter
While at the station I also went in a semi-submersible-submarine.
Crazy antler-shaped coral.
Fishies and more types of coral than you could imagine.
I also went scuba diving for the first time (and so far only time). I found Nemo in that little adventure and he was hiding in an anemone :)
I must admit I was terrified at first. The thought of going so far underwater with only the airtanks to keep me from drowning... with great white sharks, sting rays and who knows what else? Having to descend and ascend slowly so I didn't get the bends. UGH! What was I thinking? LOL... But I'm so glad I did it. I almost started hyperventilating as we were going down, but I made myself slow down, take deep breaths and focus on breathing normally (or as normally as I could). I figured when would I ever get another chance to go scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef?
